28

So what does it feel like to be 28?  It doesn't feel any different than 27...perhaps I will not feel like I am 28 until the day before my 29th birthday :)  I know that I am looking forward to all of the great things that this next year of my life will hold.  A lot can happen in a year!

Swarm!!

Okay, so today was pretty interesting.  Before school started this morning, I was sitting in my classroom at work (with the door open) and I heard kids yelling about bees.  Seeing as my classroom borders the field, I stuck my head out to see what was up (fully expecting only a few bees).  What I saw was a SWARM of bees...and I mean a swarm...it was huge!  I wasn't sure what to do, but the yard duty people sure knew!  They blew their whistles and made everyone go into the cafeteria.  We were then put on inclement weather schedule until the principal thought that it had been long enough since anybody had seen the swarm (right before lunch).  At first, I thought, what's the big deal?  They're just bees, and they are gone...but then I realized that th

Anti-social

So I know it seems as if I am being slightly anti-social...but work has been totally crazy. I had 3 days to decorate my room and try to get ready for 29 students. My first week with them went pretty well. I have a really good group of kids that were given a really great foundation before they walked into my classroom (the 5th grade teachers are really great...a little strict, but that is what kids this age seem to need...they need to know that there are boundaries). My goal now is to get my students to talk a bit more. This past week I would ask them a question, and they would just sit there...no response...so I am trying to think about some other things that I can do to get them to come out of their shells.

Job?

I just got a call from the sub line...I am going to be filling in a vacancy for a 6th grade class...starting Monday. They are not sure what is going to happen...they might find a teacher for it or the students might be broken up into different classes later, or what...there is even the possibility of hiring me...but I think that that's probably last on their list :P  Wish me luck...I have less than a week to try to get stuff together...!

Ick!

Why is it that when Paul is away, all the spiders want to come out and...if you thought that I was going to say "play", then you are incorrect in your assumption...I was thinking more along the lines of saying, "terrorize me until I run screaming from the apartment". Now, don't get me wrong. I realize that spiders have a purpose in this life (other than being the bane of my existence). I am grateful that they catch icky bugs like mosquitos and such. I just wish that they would DO IT OUTSIDE. Having said that, there is one thing that is probably more amusing to others than it is to me, yet I find it amusing in hindsight. Before I go "spider hunting" (aka chasing after one with a Kleenex) I talk to the spider as if it were a child in deep trouble. Call it my "spider mantra".

Life of an Army Wife

It has been brought to my attention that the show "Army Wives" has become quite popular. At first, this mystified me...how could a show about that subject be so alluring to viewers?
