I Could Have Died!

So this morning, I went to get into the shower, but as I stepped onto the bath mat, I felt what I thought was a wrinkle. Since wrinkles bug me for some reason, I decided to step back and smooth out the rug. Well, the wrinkle didn't go away, so I patted at it, trying to determine what it was. It felt skinny and was slightly twisted. My first thought was that it was one of Paul's blousers (elastic bands with hooks on the end that he can use with his uniform pants so that it keeps the pants straight without having to be tucked into his boots, because he hates having them tucked into his boots) and I couldn't figure out how in the world one of his blousers got into the bathroom...so I tossed part of the rug back to get it...and I saw a scorpion! I threw the rug back over it and yelled for Paul...I told him what I saw, and he was flabbergasted as to how a scorpion could get into our bathroom. He put on his boots and some gloves and grabbed a brick (he had one laying around that he used to press books for one of his library classes). He left the mat over the scorpion and then squished it with a brick until he was sure it was dead...he then took a good look at it (to ensure that it was dead) and then looked up images of scorpions on google to find out what kind it was...apparently we had a 2 and a 1/2 inch long bark scorpion in our bathroom. We found out that bark scorpions live in palm trees, are attracted to water (hence why it was in our bathroom), and can climb up vertical surfaces...they often will clim up stucco walls (like the exterior of our apartment) and can fit through a hole as small as 1/6 of an inch...needless to say, I am going to let our management know so that perhaps they can spray around our apartment (though I don't know how they are going to get around our windows, since we live on the second story) and we will probably be shaking out our shoes before we put them on for quite a while. We also might take it as far as making random sweeps of our bathroom and other damp areas...under our sinks perhaps (that just occured to me *shudder*). Heavenly Father was definitely looking out for me!
